This series of unvarnished portraits of Afghan and US service men was shot by Swiss based photographer Christoph Bangert during his last stay in Kandahar. Despite the many hassles involved, Christoph had also brought a Rolleiflex and 15 rolls of Plus- and Tri-X film on his recent trip to Afghanistan. Embedded with American military police, he was assigned to a police compound in the middle of Kandahar where he lived, slept and ate alongside his prospective subjects. “It’s just portraits of the people who fight this war.”
