NIEVES new collaboration with artist AARON ROSE is characterized by an outstanding mix of colorful, graphic pop elements and emblems. Rose claims that life is nothing more than a dictionary of symbols: “We look to symbols everywhere to help us make sense of our existence. From the mundane to the mystical, symbols are totems that give order to the chaos and also help define ourselves as a tribe.” Rather than use symbols for their intended significance, Rose mischievously recontextualizes meanings in unexpected saucy ways. He smoothly composes his work of elements culled from the annals of visual history and fools us into thinking that there is sense in this world.

AARON ROSE is a jack of all trades, an artist, film director, writer, publisher, comedien and independent curator. From 1992-2002 he ran the legendary and infamous ALLEGED GALLERY in New York. Rose was one of the forces behind the BEAUTIFUL LOSERS project, an homage to street art. In 2011 he co-curated the exhibition “Art In The Streets” at MoCA in Los Angeles. Rose is also the editor of ANP QUARTERLY, a large format art paper published by RVCA.
